IGN's editorial structure has us all divided into teams based on specific gaming platforms. But let's be real here: we're hardcore gamers whose broad tastes can't be restricted to the offerings of a single gaming system. No one's concerned that they chose too many games from a particular genre, or that they left off a great and popular game simply because it didn't connect with them.Now that we've got our platform specific awards out the way, we thought we'd take an opportunity to reveal our own personal picks for 2008 across all platforms. All of our "best of" features involve a subjective kind of evaluation, but these choices here are even more personal and honestly reveal each of our individual likes and dislikes. In short, this isn't a way of rewarding the best games of 2008, but rather a way for each of us to honor the games that we liked the best.The PC, the consoles and the handhelds all had remarkably strong releases, offering big hits in all the core genres and a surprising number of successful titles that broke free of the standard conventions of game design.
